the 'busses!

The horse-drawn cabs in Kingston in the 19th and early 20th centuries were known as omnibuses, abbreviated to 'buses/'busses and looked like those illustrated below.

I cannot find the source or date of this illustration, but it seems likely to have been drawn around 1900.

I cannot find the source of this illustration, but it seems very much like a Kingston 'bus, though it is from Malta.

I found these illustrations just yesterday in Harper's New Magazine, the Jamaica Journal, and the Gleaner. I had never seen illustrations of this 19th century Jamaican equipment before, and thought others might be interested to see them too!
